The continental association for Europe was only founded on 17.04.1988 in
Paris. Traditionally, the European federation also includes the
non-European countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, as they had been
taking part in its competitions since the seventh European Championship.
At the congress on 20.05.2012 the change of name from European & Mediterranean Archery
Union (EMAU) to World Archery Europe (WAE) was decided. The new name came into effect on
01.01.2013.
